Genre. 
An explanation of genre would be a category that a type of music fits into. Each sound has its own audience and special characteristics. There is such a broad variety of different genres because everybody has their own taste.

I think it is extremely important for a music video to follow specific genre conventions when it is being created if the artist is looking to create and maintain a strong bond with their audience. The target audience is often anticipating the release of their idols work and looks for familiar characteristics throughout the whole time of following them through their career. In the music industry it is vital that musicians music videos follow certain conventions of genres so that they can carry on successfully selling music and products linked to the artist; music videos are used as a type of promotion in this sense. 

Researching music video genres has helped me with my own planning by making me realise that whatever I create needs to fit within certain restrictions of genre characteristics and this is because any product that I make should aim to please and entertain my target audience and also fit it with my artist and the rest of their campaign.
